About Us
The Local Quote is an independent journal for people across the UK who hire tradespeople, look after a home and deal with local services. It publishes plain guides on finding and checking traders, home repairs, home energy, consumer rights and everyday local life.
How the guides are made
Every guide starts from a question people ask again and again: how to check a gas engineer, what a party wall notice is, how to get money back when a job goes wrong. Facts are checked against primary sources such as GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk, Ofgem, the Gas Safe Register, the Planning Portal and Citizens Advice, and the sources are listed under each guide. Prices change quickly, so the guides explain how things work and where to find current figures rather than printing numbers that go out of date.
What the journal does not do
The Local Quote does not list, rate or recommend individual traders, does not take payment to review businesses and is not connected with any consumer association, trade directory or comparison service. Guides are general information, not legal or financial advice.
The archive
This domain previously hosted a local-services recommendation site. A handful of its articles are kept as a labelled archive, with the former service's branding removed and an editor's note wherever the facts have moved on.
